If you want your website to rank well in the search engines, there are certain features that should not be overlooked. Here are five of the most important aspects:
- Create your site with a clear and logical hierarchy, and good internal linking structure
- Build a useful, information rich site, and make sure the content on each page agrees with its place in the structure. Content should also be useful for your users.
- Make sure that each page has a unique <title> tag, and it accurately describes the content on the page, and that all images have ALT tags that are descriptive
- Frequently check for broken links and correct HTML – anything that is broken can hinder the spiders as they try to index your site
- Use a robots.txt file on your web server which tells the crawlers which directories can or can't be crawled.
